Free-standing Starbucks planned in Grimes

Starbucks Corp. will open a stand-alone coffeehouse at 2255 E. First St.,  developer Kurt Mumm said. Mumm and Mark Hanrahan, who also are brokers with Cushman & Wakefield, own the 2.2 ace site. The developers said the 2,100-square-foot store will include a drive-thru. They said the Seattle-based firm signed a lease with them earlier in November. Construction of the coffee shop will be complete by mid-2021. The Starbucks will be near Menards, which opened in July 2019, and across the street from Walmart. "You’ve got a critical retail node right there at that intersection [of Iowa Highway 141 and East First] that you really don’t find many other places," Mumm recently told the Business Record. "It makes other businesses also want to be there."
